When we first met Rigo Bucio of Bucio Organic Farm in 2013, he was successfully farming on five acres, growing healthy food, and delivering it to market. However, despite his technical skills, Rigo was struggling with the business aspects of farming. He needed to find a better way to manage his finances so that he could turn his passion for growing good food into viable living that would support his young family. Additionally, as an immigrant from Mexico, Rigo faced other barriers to success - he spoke very little English and was lacking experience with computers and email.
Last spring, our client Caleb of Fogline Farms was testing the waters of running his farm solo after the departure of his former business partner. Caleb felt overwhelmed by the prospect of managing the farm on his own and was unsure whether the farming livelihood could support his family. We featured an appeal to support Caleb & Fogline Farm through Silicon Valley Gives, and over 40 generous donors stepped up.
