When she was young, Leticia Landa loved reading the Little House on the Prairie books and secretly wished she lived on a farm. During her college years, she started going to the farmers market regularly and learned to understand the value of eating seasonally. Today, she is dedicated to supporting independent farmers through her role as a Kitchen Cabinet member on Kitchen Table Advisors. We recently caught up with her to find out why her work with Kitchen Table Advisors is important to her.
What is your personal connection to sustainable food and farming?
"I have been working at La Cocina, a non-profit food business incubator in San Francisco for the past 7.5 years. I strongly believe that everyone deserves an opportunity to make a living doing what they are passionate about and am proud to support both La Cocina and Kitchen Table Advisors in lowering the barriers to success and providing business resources so that all kinds of entrepreneurs get the opportunity to thrive. When I started at La Cocina, we had three full-time staff and now we have 10. I hope to bring my experience growing La Cocina to the beginning stages of Kitchen Table Advisors."
Why is it important for you to support farmers in building viable businesses?
"It's important to me to support farmers because they feed us! I appreciate going to farmers markets and getting to know the people who produce my food (both farmers and cooks) and I know how incredibly hard food production is so it's something I try to support both with my purchasing decisions and also with my time as a volunteer."
