Eduardo Salazar of E&E Farm has been farming for over twenty years, nurturing his childhood passion for agriculture into a blossoming business. Eduardo started E&E in 2019 with five acres of land that he dedicated to growing organic vegetables. As the farm grew to encompass over 25 acres in three years, family support became a core part of the business. With many family members transitioning to work on the farm full-time in the past year, Eduardo works full-time alongside his wife, Jackie, mother Reyna, father Raul, sister Yesenia, brother Bladimir, and brother-in-law Paulino to keep E&E running. Eduardo’s passion and experience, combined with his family’s investment in the business, has allowed him to not only purchase his own family home near the farm, but propelled him to start exploring purchasing farmland.

Advising Snapshot: 2022

Land access in the Central Valley has continually posed a problem for many of our clients in the region. The high cost of farmland and lack of smaller parcels represent significant barriers to long-term land security. Being able to purchase a family home close to his farm was a major step towards stability for Eduardo, granting him and his family close access to the farm while also providing for their livelihoods. Now, he has begun the process of searching for farmland to purchase in order to ensure longevity for his operation and thoughtful stewardship of the land.

To both move toward his vision of land ownership and improve daily operations through new equipment, Eduardo and KTA farm business advisor Angie Estrada-Bugarín have been working on a capital access strategy and launching new market channels. As a new business owner, Eduardo has also been expanding his understanding of small business management. Together, Eduardo and Angie have focused on keeping E&E up to date with regulations, as well as sought out new market channels to improve cashflow – all in preparation to be loan ready and continue nourishing the business so it can financially support the family members who rely on it.
