If you stop by the All Roots Allowed farm stand, you’re likely to walk away with some new knowledge—and maybe a free cookie. Elriken and Kelly Hines are passionate about connecting with their neighbors, whether through small gestures like a free cookie jar or larger actions like starting the first farmer’s market in Wilton.
Their farm journey started when Elriken and Kelly’s kids moved out of the house, and the two decided to relocate somewhere they could have more land. They began growing food for their family, but pretty soon their supply of tomatoes and zucchini was so plentiful, they had to give some away. They searched for nearby farm stands and didn’t see many. So the couple began with a pop-up tent in their front yard, selling their extra produce during the weekends. From the beginning, the couple was committed to not using pesticides, growing healthy produce for folks who stopped by.
Although Kelly and her husband worked full time, they wanted to start something of their own — by 2023, All Roots Allowed was officially in business. Elriken and Kelly began a new chapter, spending more and more of their time growing their own food and meeting members of their community. In addition to vegetables, fruit, and eggs, the couple also began selling bread, muffins, and cookies, all baked by Kelly. They often carry items from other local makers, including products like honey and canvas bags.
It’s important to the couple that people learn more about the food they put on their plates. Kelly says that her husband loves chatting with people who come to the farm; she personally likes to see people’s amazement at how produce grows. When they can, their kids help with the farm and business. For the holidays, Elriken and Kelly organize themed events at the farm, inviting people of all ages to spend time on their land and learn more about the crops they grow.

Farm Business Advisor Idara Phillips visited Elriken and Kelly’s farm stand even before the couple began working with Kitchen Table Advisors. Now, as clients, they hope to work with Idara to keep their business growing by making their farm stand more approachable to attract new customers. Eventually, they hope this increased demand will allow them to grow more food, and potentially find more land.
They are also currently enrolled in the Community Alliance with Family Farmers’ Organic Transition Program, after applying with Idara’s guidance. In addition, Idara assisted the couple in applying for the California Department of Food and Agriculture Urban Agriculture grant, which they also received. Elriken and Kelly plan to use some of these funds to get a tractor, fix some elements of the farm stand, and invest in more refrigeration. The couple is also working on new value-added products, such as seasoning mixes, soup mixes, and jams.
