Before starting Reyes Farm, Manuel Reyes worked with food in a different capacity: first in the restaurant industry and then as a private chef, spending many years in the industry transforming fresh ingredients into elaborate dishes. Growing up in Michoacan, Mexico, Manuel was exposed to farming at a young age and dreamed of working outdoors and more closely with the land. Thus, in 2009, he started his agricultural journey on land in Healdsburg where he grew strawberries, dahlias, and eggs.

By 2013, he relocated his farm to Windsor, in Sonoma County, where he initially leased and eventually purchased 6.8 acres of land. Manuel transitioned to full-time farming in 2022; now, his farm produces approximately 30 different crops, including eggs, tomatoes, and strawberries. Manuel prioritizes the health of his land and produce by using sustainable production practices such as crop rotation and organic soil amendments. Manuel sells his produce and eggs at local farmers markets across Sonoma County, connecting with the community he nourishes with each sale he makes.

Advising Snapshot: 2025

Manuel began working with Kitchen Table Advisors in January 2024 with the goals of increasing revenue for the farm, diversifying his market channels, improving farm infrastructure, and achieving a better work-life balance.

With the support of our business advising team, he applied for and received an Organic Transition Grant from California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) in the hopes of transitioning his farm to fully organic. With the grant, he was able to purchase organic soil amendments, tractor implements, and a cooler for his produce. Eventually, in the Spring of 2025, he achieved his goal of organic certification, which builds trust with his customers and expands his options for institutional sales through FEED, a local food hub in Sonoma.

Manuel is also hoping to refine his sales outlets. Currently, he sells to as many as 6 markets a week and makes wholesale deliveries to FEED.  With help from Farm Business Advisor Brooks Schmitt, Manuel is working to evaluate his sales outlets for profitability as well as tailor his crop plan to better meet local demand and get the best prices for his crops.

As a landowner, Manuel is interested in making improvements to his property that will benefit his farming operation in the long term. KTA’s Business Advising team has helped Manuel connect to numerous technical service partners in the region to gain funding and assistance with a high tunnel, a hedgerow, and drainage infrastructure.

Now, as Manuel looks ahead, his dream is to move his family to the farm to better integrate farm and family life and create financial stability for his retirement.
