Erin and Brennan’s story begins in San Francisco, where they met while working at a co-op grocery store. After they began dating, their next chapter took them to a goat dairy farm on Hawaii together. Back on the mainland, they continued working with animals, getting jobs on a private farm and growing increasingly passionate about tending pigs and sheep. Soon, they decided they wanted to raise their own livestock—a step that would combine their experience on the farm with their passion for locally grown food.
In 2021, Erin and Brennan officially began Fox Sparrow Farm with a goal to bring high quality pork products to Sonoma County. The farm currently has about 50 sheep and 40 pigs, as well as a few ducks and goats. Erin and Brennan believe that since meat products are staples of American diets, it’s important that the animals are raised with respect and care. As foodies themselves, everything they do on the farm is in hopes that people will be able to enjoy healthy, delicious meals.
Both Erin and Brennan share a deep connection to the land and nature beyond the animals they care for. Erin grew up hiking and camping in California’s parks, and is passionate about native plants, and Brennan loves to bird watch and photograph wildlife. The couple’s love of nature has driven them to invest in ecosystem-focused ranch projects, such as working with the Gold Ridge Resource Conservation District and Point Blue Conservation Science to add hedgerows of native plants and establish natural drainages that prevent runoff.
Erin and Brennan are also investing in healthy soil, experimenting with cover crops, rotating their pasture fences frequently, and directing their pigs to areas with invasive weeds, leveraging the pigs’ grazing and tilling capabilities to improve the biodiversity of their pastures and stewarding a more regenerative landscape. They recently received a Healthy Soils Grant, which they used to add compost applications on their pasture, and hope to keep improving their soil in the near future. All of these holistic and symbiotic choices make Fox Sparrow Farm a space that’s not only about raising animals, but about making sure the environment is supported as well.

Advising Focus Making informed financial decisions; expanding the business
Business Goals Access to capital, market expansion, land access
Advising Snapshot: 2026
With the guidance of Farm Business Advisor Brooks Schmitt, Erin and Brennan are focused on capital access for business growth. Without these crucial funds, growth has felt daunting; however, Brooks is helping the couple apply for their first business loan. In addition, Brooks is supporting them in prioritizing key investments in the business while also identifying where they can save money. In time, Erin and Brennan hope to expand their markets beyond direct-to-consumer outlets, and collaborate more with similar farms in the area. They also aim to start selling USDA meat cuts, a process they’re looking to learn more about from Brooks.
Erin and Brennan are currently part of the Sonoma County Ag + Open Space’s Buy-Protect-Sell program, a pilot program in which Ag + Open Space buys farm and ranch properties, then protects it with easements and covenants before selling the conserved land to certain buyers. Their ultimate vision is to work on the farm full-time and own the land where they farm.
